L8: we're frustrated
"What is '08' doing for us?" -Liverpool 8's concern.
L8’s people helped inspire Liverpool winning the' Capital of Culture08';however, the early results of a survey conducted by Toxteth08 suggests persistent frustration with the Liverpool Culture Company in this area.
NEWPAPERS
L8 Residents sometimes still mistrust negative mainstream newspaper coverage. Local media house Trinity Mirror might be treating the 08 affair with great sympathy (see Culture in Crisis? and is the 08 Dossier: is 08 In Safe Hands?) .However, Trinity remains obsessed with the spending habits of white Capital of Culture Board Members.

Predominantly 'white' bloggers of Trinity’s latest icliverpool sites, Liverpool Daily Post.co.uk & Liverpool Echo.co.uk, have released information on taxes spent, compared with community groups assisted. We thank you!
Trinity’s vox-pops sometimes marginalise local black and artistic views. This is unfortunate given that trust in both papers remains so low.

TV coverage of 'Liverpool Capital of Culture2008’s official opening ' People’s Extravaganza' -January 11th also failed to reflect L8 ,although Granada Northwest’s 8:08pm broadcast seemed respectful as it was led by a rare black/white journalistic partnership -indeed led by Black British journo Tony Morris.
PERFORMANCES
Ringo Starr’s drumming (mimed! and expenses asked for £93,000 ) led the night’s line-up of mainly white people, but … remember Geldof’s LiveAid? Black Liverpudlians choose not to. 35,000 crowded St. George’s plateau yet footage revealed they were white majority.
Our organisation believes Toxteth offers more than slavery’s legacy and we want the world to know about it.

Everyone REPORTING etc. must ALWAYS abide by British Health & Safety Law PLUS the NUJ’s Code of Conduct PLUS These Rules…
Toxteth08 must be led by respected L8 Writers.
Toxteth08’s “Editor” and “Chief Web Writer” will lead features.
Trustee Committee Members should Advise, Care-take and/or Assist.
Committee Members needn’t be black.
Member Applicants must demonstrate L8 NEIGHBOURHOOD interests spanning Three Years or more PLUS sound OCCUPATIONAL SUCCESS in MEDIA, PHOTOGRAPHY, GRAPHICS, CULTURE/COMMUNITY and/or the ARTS.
New Committee Membership Voting Procedure: new members need to 1. Declare written interest in membership (30-50 words on occupational background with supportive evidence, essential) and then 2. Be voted in by at least two other Committee Members (non-essential in first 6 mths).
Voluntary Contributors: Students (16 years (+) are particularly welcome. Please report, photograph or fundraise for Toxteth08! You just need to submit examples of your work plus two references.
Stories must cover Items of Creative and Multicultural Interest (Music, Art and related to Liverpool Capital of Culture’s winning ‘World-In-One-City' bid and from L8 Perspectives.
Privilege will be given to those written from Positivist Angles.
Minor surplus Resources will be channelled into a video tour of Grassroots Art and/or Music from the L8 Underground.
Round II Funding will be channelled into further Wages and Office Space.
Reporters must gain correct spellings of Names, Age, Occupation, and Ward Location AND Views on EU, Capital of Culture of interviewees.
Inaccuracies: corrections must be posted immediately –reporters must do those although editor maintains responsibility
Never photograph children.
Gain permission of adults you wish to photograph.
Try to respect cultural differences –challenge fascism; no defamations.
Details: Writers to be SPECIFIC rather than vague or too cryptic. AVOID Inaccuracies. Photographers, CLEAR (10mp & JPEG preferred).
40 Minutes Max. per interview. Set-Question then Allow Natural Flow.
Finally: Everyone Involved Must Promote Self-Expression, Art, Photography, Gr8 Music, Dram-a-rama, Comedy, Soul Food, Friendship, Love, Liberty, Joy and Toxteth08.Org …at all times!!
